Central League

One of the professional leagues that belong to Nippon Professional Baseball.

Eight teams were founding members of the Central League in 1950, but two of those teams have disappeared by merging with other teams, and since 1953 six teams currently remain to this day. (Below, in alphabetical order.)

  1. Merged with the Pacific League's Nishitetsu Clippers (from 1951: Nishitetsu Lions; now the Saitama Seibu Lions) before the 1951 season.
  2. The Taiyo Whales and Shochiku Robins merged and moved to Osaka before the 1953 season.
  3. Moved to Kawasaki as the Taiyo Whales (now the Yokohama DeNA BayStars) before the 1955 season.
