Meg Griffin Meg is a self-conscious and insecure adolescent girl. She is treated unfairly by various people and has numerous insecurities that prompt her to try to be part of the "in-crowd". However, this only results in her getting rebuffed by the many bullies of this circle, particularly Connie D'Amico, the head cheerleader of the local high school, James Woods Regional High School. However, despite this Meg has had many romantic encounters throughout the show's run.

On the season 1 DVD commentary for the Drawn Together episode "Hot Tub", Cree Summer claims she was offered the role to play Meg but was dismissed by the producers. Meg was voiced Rachael MacFarlane in the pilot episode and subsequently voiced by an uncredited Lacey Chabert for the first season, and by Mila Kunis in following seasons after Chabert became busy with school and her role on Party of Five, although some of her work became second season episodes due to production order. Mila Kunis won the role after auditions and a slight rewrite of the character, in part due to her performance on That '70s Show. MacFarlane called Kunis back after her first audition, instructing her to speak more slowly, and then told her to come back another time and enunciate more. Once she claimed that she had it under control, MacFarlane hired her. MacFarlane stated that Kunis "had a very natural quality to Meg" and she's "in a lot of ways ...] almost more right for the character". Kunis's voice is first heard as Meg in Episode 3 of season two "Da Boom", and the voices switch back and forth in the broadcast order until settling on Kunis. Tara Strong provides Meg's singing voice in "Don't Make Me Over" and Ali Hillis lends her voice for "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story". Archival recordings of Lacey Chabert's voice that she provided as Meg Griffin are used in the tenth season episode "Back to the Pilot" in which Brian and Stewie go back in time to the events of "Death Has a Shadow".

While Meg is usually a pushover, she can get angry when pushed too far, though such occasions are usually rare. This can be seen in the episode "Seahorse Seashell Party", where she strongly insults and defames Peter, Lois, and even Chris for their inconsiderate actions toward her. This causes Peter, Lois, and Chris to distance themselves in shame and sends Peter into depression; though she later apologizes upon realizing that the family needs a "lightning rod" to absorb the dysfunction. In the episode "Road to Rupert", Meg assaults a man for insulting her after a fender-bender.
Many of the show's storylines about Meg involve her trying to improve her life, find a boyfriend, being a Russian sleeper agent, and reaching breaking points with her family and others who victimize her.
In the most recent episodes Meg Griffin has become a more dynamic character, acting as an "Agent of Chaos" and embracing her more vulgar attributes while being more vocal and ready to lash out.
Meg Griffin is 157cm(5'2") tall and has brown shoulder length hair, round black eyes (they may be blue, the same color as her father's), and a stocky atheletic build earning her the epithtet "Fridge Bod". She is renowned for her trademark pink hat and large round glasses. Meg is rarely seen with eyebrows when not wearing her glasses and when she does they are typically short. She generally wears a pink tee with a white undershirt, loose fitting blue pants, and white sneakers. During cold seasons she can be seen wearing a purple faux fur linned aviator jacket. On special occasions she seems to prefer sleeveless dresses with a chocker and high heel pumps. She has a yellow pajama set and a pink one piece swimsuit.
She appears to have inherited the shape of her nose and head from her mother, and her brown hair and myopia from her father. Meg is relatively unremarkable in appearance however, most characters on the show consider her grotesque. In spite of this multiple episodes imply that Meg's unattractiveness has more to do with a lack of self care rather than an innate ugliness. Simply cleaning herself up has ascended her to the status of a pop star before.
