Overview

Metroid (メトロイド, Metoroido) is the title of a science fiction action video game series by Nintendo. The game starts a space bounty hunter name Samus Aran.

It is also the title of the first game in the series and a fictional life form that appears throughout the series.

The Metroid Series can be divided into two main categories: the Metroid Series and the Metroid Prime Series.

Metroid Series

Side-view type (side view of the stage) 2D action game.

Metroid Prime series

Adventure game in the form of a first-person shooter.

In addition, Metroid Prime Pinball is a pinball game in which the morph ball transformed by Samus' special ability is used as a pinball ball.

Setting

The world setting is science fiction, set in a far-future universe, with fantasy elements (especially in the Metroid Prime series).

Unusually for a Nintendo game, which is mainly aimed at families, the game has a serious and dark style, similar to a monster thriller movie. While The Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Star Fox, which are also serious in nature, have occasional gag scenes mixed in, this series has no gag scenes.

The main flow of the game is that Samus Aran infiltrates enemy territory at the request of the Galactic Federation and others, solves mysteries while acquiring power-up items, and defeats powerful enemies on her way to her goal.

Gameplay

There are very few hint messages along the way, especially in the first and second games.

Therefore, although there are many times when you get stuck, there is always a way through, so it is essential to have at least the following hints: "You can only proceed if you have the key new features and equipment" and "Look for the hidden passageway".

Especially in Super Metroid and later, puzzle elements are added to the item search. Depending on the number of items obtained and the time required to complete a mission, an ending cutscene will be added, and the player will be able to view a gallery, background materials, and other in-depth information about the world.

In addition, Time Attack has existed since the first game, where the secret of Samus Aran is revealed for the first time (although it is now an open secret in Smash Bros. and other games.).
