Overview

Parody (パロディ, parodi) refers to the "creative expression that is generally based on a specific concept or work", and includes caricaturing, ridiculing, or aiming at a reversal of values.

When it comes to pixiv submissions, the term is often used to indicate the presence of another work of art underlying the style or composition, even if the expression is not satirical or comical.

Parody has been established as a form of caricaturing, satire, and ridicule. For this reason, some foreign countries (Europe and the U.S.) have enacted laws that establish requirements to be met in order to give parody works social significance.

In Japan, there has been no movement to give such parodies a certain level of civil rights, so publicly publishing parodies of other works without the author's permission is rarely viewed favorably from a copyright perspective, and it is especially difficult to parody other works in commercial products. To see such a case, see Nintendo Legal Department.

Now that people are becoming more aware of copyright, it is possible to get into trouble, such as being sued by the parody source and having the matter become a public lawsuit.
